If you plan on shipping reptiles (especially snakes) I would suggest you become FedEx certified. It takes a few minutes of your time, 2-3wks later, you are certified.
If it's just one package you plan on sending, or just a few a year, I would suggest using a middle company like Reptile Express. If it's Leopard Geckos you can use UPS direct, but a company like Reptile Express utilizes UPS and gives you a slightly better rate than UPS direct as they use volume discounts that you would not get with just one package: http://www.reptilesexpress.com/
Cost of shipping can vary depending on box size, weight and zip code to zip code. But for a standard 12x9x6 box, you could be looking at $20-$60 depending where it's going.
You could also check, depending on your area and UPS/FedEx logistics, you could just use Ground/Home Service, which will still be delivered the next day in a certain area. BUT, they do not guarantee morning delivery, so it could be delivered between 10:00AM-5:00PM, so depending on temps and weather, you may be safer paying a few bucks extra and make sure it's delivered early AM. I've used this Home service with FedEx when delivering within North and Central FL, and the temps are on the cooler (not cold) side. It'll cost $8.00 Vs $25-$30 for Overnight, and have never had a problem, but if you are uncertain, ALWAYS ship priority overnight.
